Sunset Glow and Being Car-less

Sunset Glow
Oil on Linen

I'm showing my latest small painting. It's one of three that I worked on in rotation for the past week. It's best to work on several at once since the drying of layers is essential before adding successive glazes and scumbles.

As many of you know, I set up an eBay shop. The primary reason I decided to do this is because my daughter is going to graduate school and has a boyfriend in the city. So MY car is gone the majority of the time. Sometimes I catch my husband calling it HER car. What? But it's okay really. It's only for about another nine months. (Ha) So in the meantime, I set up my little shop.

I actually sold a painting this past week on eBay. You can check it out here. It turns out that someone had seen this painting at my solo library show in September and went on my website and then went to eBay.

Okay, instead of hawking my wares on this blog, I'm thinking of setting up a separate sales blog. After all, this blog is calling Musings, right?

This colors in this piece are so rich and beautiful. If I hadn't already done my Christmas shopping, I'd surely bid. I wish you great success in your art business. Art is life!! Blessings!

This is so beautiful, no wonder it has sold.
Are there lots of hidden costs involved with an e-bay store? I hope it all goes well for you. I have always shied away from selling art on the internet as I fear colours can never be represented properly and think buying a piece of art is such a visual, tactile and emotional thing.
I too am car-less. Now we only have one car and my husband uses it for work, so I am ‘stuck’ in my little village in the countryside. Still we do have a bus service to two larger towns a couple of times a day, and I use the bus route time (at least an hour each way) to study the landscape, knit or read up on my favourite artists!
All the best with your new shop….

Congratulatios on the eBay sale! I feel a wave of cabin fever just knowing I'm without a car, even if I have no where in the world to go. It's funny, but I feel better with it parked in the garage!

the frame works so well with your wonderful colours Janelle. being without a car sometimes for me is an excellent way to keep me at the easel:)) congratulations on the sale on ebay too. r.

Lovely, dream-like painting, Janelle! Congratulations on your sale and best wishes with your ebay venture.

The same thing happens to me when my college boy is in town. Somehow, I'm the one left without transportation. Hmmm. A conspiracy??

Your last few pieces are so well done. The edges seem so soft and you've really captured the feel of sunset.

This painting looks gorgeous in the gold frame. Congratulations on the sale. It can be so difficult to break into ebay selling. It can be a lot of fun though. I think people begin to relate to your work when you sell the same style. Look forward to seeing the new shop.

Hi Marion, Yes, Art is life! And your poetry inspires me.

Hi Maggie, I'm still trying to figure out the eBay thing, but yes, they do take a small percentage. And you're right about art being slightly different over a computer screen. I'm hoping you'll be posting all about your new tea shop/art gallery. It's so charming!

Hi Willow, It's nice having a car in garage at all times. But I guess this forces me to do more painting. Maybe I'll win the lottery and just buy another car. Ha!

Hi Rahina, Yes, I think I do get more painting done without a car. And I'm starting to pay much more attention to the frames I use. Thanks!

Hi Melinda, You're left without a car too? Oh these ingrates:).

Hi Pam, So glad you like my latest work. It is different, I admit. Thanks!

Hi Karen, I think it's time for a critique blog discussion. I could use some advice!

Hi Catherine, You brought up an interesting point that I hadn't thought about much - about painting in the same style. Now I need to see what you've been up to!

Hi Janelle! sorry you have lost YOUR car (!) That would never fly with me. The kid would walk! lol. This certainly is an appealing painting. The thing about eBay is that a zillion artists are trying to sell and many paintings are lost in the glut. But--your work is so nice, perhaps you'll do well. I hope so. Pretty painting here!

More lovely work Janelle.

Congrats on your sale too. I hope your ebay shop will be a great success.

Janelle, your paintings are so beautifully atmospheric. The glazing really pays off but I don't think I would have the patience to glaze with oils and as you say it means you have to have several on the go at once. Hope your online store is a success for you!

Excellent painting! I'm glad you're having luck on E-Bay. I finally got to paint this week and I was inspired by your recent work. I'll have to post it as a WIP because it is rather large.

Hi Celeste, Yes it used to be my car.....HA! I thought I'd give the eBay thing at least six months. We'll see....:)

Hi Susan, Thanks for your sweet comment. I guess it is part of the journey!

Hi Joan, Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hi Kathleen, Love your new Winter bowl!

Hi Sheila, Thanks! I've been enjoying your new paintings with geometric shapes!

Hi Neetzy, I'm glad you're over that nasty flu. I'll be watching for that new painting!

Hi Laurel, Thanks so much! I appreciate your comments!

Hi Diane, I would love to see your work in person too! The eBay thing is slow, but steady. I need to e-mail you for some advice

Hi Loriann, Checking out your daily blog is like taking my vitamins too. It's reassuring to see your work everyday!

Hi Jill, The eBay thing is actually like starting up a real business - I'm so surprised! It takes time and effort and actually looking at all the numbers...eeeeckkk! I always love looking at your blog and kinda wish I lived in Florida.
