Dawn

This unfinished piece is one of three I've done so far in Deborah Paris's online class.  The assignment was to portray dawn.  Using cooler colors is one of the hallmarks of any dawn painting.

Taking a workshop or class always pushes my comfort level.  After trying to jam new facts into my brain, the best results are usually seen months later.  It takes me that long to assimilate what I've learned and feel comfortable with the process.  Has anyone else experienced this with workshops or classes?

couldn't agree more. Sometimes I have thought I am a "slow learner"...lol...but I have come to accept that (for me) things take awhile to gestate. I love this painting!

Janelle, you don't want to know my workshop experiences... briefly i usually spend the first 5 hours disturbing everyone and in the last hour start focusing;) the painting is wonderful, it is almost singing 'morning has broken...' please don't lose that natural instinct at those workshops:)r.

Hello Janelle,
How gorgeous and captivating
I hope you'll show the rest.

Absolutely yes! It seems like those classes/workshops get something going in my subconscious and then I start seeing the results.

This is beautiful. Looking forward to seeing where this takes you. It's good to step outside of our comfort zone. Cheers to you!

This has a wonderful, soft feeling, like many mornings really do. I often have to rethink what I learn in classes and workshops. So mush is said, and I need time to absorb it all.

Celeste - I love that word - gestate. Yes, that describes it perfectly.

Rahina - I think it would fun to take a class with you!

Betsy - Thanks so much!

Susan - Yes, I'll be showing more, probably unfinished as I need to keep moving forward.

Kathleen - I think you're right about the ideas being in the subconscious and later making progress. Maybe it happens when we sleep!

Pam - Yes, it does take a while to take it all in. I feel like my brains are stuffed with facts!

Hey Janelle,

I'm playing "catch-up" with my blog friends. I have really enjoyed some of these paintings. Your colors are beautiful. I've never taken an online painting class, but I do need to take time to make things work "my way". (Of course they don't always work. Yours are working. I love "Dawn". That is something that I would like to paint.

I love your interpretation of dawn - seems you're getting a lot of of the workshop.
