Peace

Oil on Linen
Steadily plodding along in my studio, these days. Here's my latest painting. I need to remember to work on several paintings at once, since each painting needs drying time between layers.
There is a peace that comes with January. The holidays are over and there is a hush as we all get back into our routines. Now there is time to pursue our own interests, to read and make plans. I'm hoping you all experience your own kind of peace during the month of January.

Lovely sentiment Janelle and may January bring you the same peace you've wished for all of us.
I can feel the tranquility as I look at this one. I just love these. Warm, inviting, and yes, peaceful!
Hi Janelle,
This piece is magnificent! The colors really struck me!! It is very peaceful and soooo beautiful!!
I so agree with your thoughts on January. Love your warm painting. I promise I'll post one of mine this weekend. It is supposed to be 40 degrees and sunny! I think I'll be able to photograph. I'm not doing tonalism, but a sort of bizarre scumbling layers. I'll be curious to know what you think.
Beautiful feel to this painting Janelle. It seems like you and tonalism/glazing are one.
Your paintings are all saying 'Janelle' these days. Imagine if you had fifty of these all with the same colours hanging together.
Looking at your work makes me realize that there is nothing like glazing in oil... however much I try the same in watercolour or gouache, I never get the same depth of colour or the same effects. I need to get those oil glazes going again!
Maggie
so expressive and powerful. You are on such a great roll
Hi Kathleen, Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing your new work!
Hi Manon, Thanks so much! I enjoyed your post on how to enjoy (survive) winter.
Hi Neetzy, I'm so looking forward to seeing your latest painting!
Hi Loriann, Thanks! I do feel this style is finally me.
Hi Maggie, If only I had fifty done (sigh). But I'm working on it. Yes, glazing in oil does give a particular glow - but then I don't know how to paint in watercolor or gouche. Thanks!
Hi Susan, Let's hope the roll continues :)
Janelle, I answered your comment on my blog.
I've been using WN Griffin alkyd oils since last month and since they dry so quickly they're great for glazing.
A peacefully beautiful piece, Janelle. We have to let life dry between the layers sometimes.
Hi Nora, Thanks for letting me know about WN Griffin alkyd oils. If they dry quickly, I think I'm going to have to give them a try!
Hi Willow, Ah, so true! Thanks!
This piece shows such beautiful painting, Janelle. The warm glow in the sky is especially well done!
Looking forward to more peaceful paintings.
I've experienced some anxiety in January, and then some peace after the anxiety over what to do now that it's quiet again subsided, and now it's nice. And your painting brings me peace, truly.
Hi Melinda, Thanks so much, appreciate it!
Hi Karen, We could all use some peace now that the holidays are over. I've really enjoyed seeing your paintings from Mexico.
I am grateful for this great posting
