Contemplation

Contemplation
Oil on Linen
10x8

This painting sold last week.  I'm happy that it's going to a new home, but I think I'll miss it.  As an oil painter, I always find it almost impossible to replicate a painting.  Even if I look at my own painting in front of me, it just never works out the same.

It's almost as if every painting is "what happened that day".  Do you ever miss paintings that you've sold?

That is a beautiful painting and I can see why you miss it.

I totally understand what you mean, I too feel as if a child has left home when one of my paintings goes.

Hopeless, eh?

You must be delighted you have sold your beautiful painting Janelle. But I do understand about the sad loss of a sold painting too. The sold painting will allow you to buy more art materials so you can paint more beautiful paintings. I have a book where I have placed photos of my sold paintings I wrote poetry beneath each one. At times I feel I want to spend some time 'looking back' and meeting my old friends the paintings again!

Congratulations on selling the painting Janelle! Thats great! I agree it is always hard to part with a painting but I just think to myself the next one will be better. Just part of the journey.

This is a beautiful painting...and I can understand why you would like to keep it! As for myself, no...I never miss my sold paintings. I think I like the idea of launching them into the world, like you launch an arrow. The fascinating thing to think is that our paintings will outlive us, and be in the world when we are not. That is the thrill of oil painting--the permanence! (oh, and this painting will definitely have a home in the future).

Oh, it is stunning! I love that warmth of those earthy colours.
I have never sold any of my creations, but I miss all those that I have given away over the years.;))

Hi Janelle. Congrats on the sale and your recent award. Well deserved!
I have a different take than most on selling work. I've never done a "keeper". I feel if someone likes a piece enough to buy it they should have it. If it moves them it's a good thing. It just inspires me to do another piece that I love and hopefully others do as well. Nature supplies the beauty, we try to capture it...again...and again...

I'm not sure I could sell a painting, in fact I still wish I had kept the ones I did in college. I haven't really painted since. Photography makes it easier to share, doesn't it? This painting looks like Wisconsin now, moody and golden and beautiful.

Hi Rolina, Ha, yes it is hopeless:)

Hi Caroline, What a great idea to have a book where you place photos of your sold paintings. I'm not much good at poetry, but I bet you are. I'd love to read your poetry sometime.

Hi Brad, Part of the journey. Yes, that's a great way to look at it!

Hi Celeste, Hmm, that's something I never really think about - the permanence of our paintings and the fact that they outlive us. Kind of humbling.

Hi Zuzana, Maybe we should take more pictures of our works. That way we could always visit them:)

Hi Brian, Yes, nature never runs out of beauty that we continuously try to capture. It is never ending!

Hi Anita, Your photography is so inspiring to me!
