I haven't posted much lately. My method of oil painting requires drying times between layers. This year I plan on painting several paintings at once. I'll post on the progress of my paintings.
I've also decided to expand the topics on my blog to what inspires me to paint. What is it that inspires an artist to pick up the paint brush and create on canvas what is experienced on the inside? I've found that bringing nature inside nurtures the soul. A few years back all of my windows were covered with shades and curtains. I cringe when I think of it now. My brother encouraged me to appreciate the beautiful Craftman style windows in our home and remove what was covering them up.
Now the outside scenery is part of the house. How many times do I stop and stare outside now when something catches my eyes, such as a beautiful sunset or the fall colors. Even Leo, our cat, enjoys the view.

Bless Leo! what a lovely wee cat he is. I do enjoying seeing the view from the windows of your home, you have snow too! I look forward to seeing your works in progress. Are you using liquin as this increases the drying time? I have just stopped using it as the fumes are just too much at this time of the year when it is not possible to open windows to ventilate. I completed my first wee moorland scene using only the paint without a medium! But like you I will also be waiting a while for the paint to dry inbetween glazes. I found a very interesting site tonight that gives the drying time of each of the oil pigments so it would be possible to plan out a faster drying painting! I was surprised to see that indian yellow has a fast drying time! Happy painting Janelle!
Oh Janelle, I'm the same way! We don't have draperies on any windows and blinds only on the ones where privacy is necessary. I love the light and nature just like you said. :)

You have such a beautiful home and amazing views, Janelle! I have sheers in my front room and love looking out at the birds and the woods across the street.
I can't wait to see what you create this coming year. My daughter gave me an oil painting she did of a woman with a dragonfly hovering in front of her face. She has it at her house still drying, but I can't wait to get it and post pictures of it.

Where does inspiration come from? What interesting food for thought. I've often thought that a book could be written on this subject, with interview with various artists. I am always amazed at how inspiring a view from a window can be. The changing skies, a mood of weather...so much to see all the time. I go to my Mother's house and her windows are covered. Outside there are trees, hills, wildlife, and so much going on. I have never understood this.
The view from your windows is wonderful. I am looking forward to seeing your new paintings and the various stages involved.

when the curtain genes were being passed out I was apparently in attendance---because I don't have curtains and I never have. I love the look of no curtains! I know some people think it is odd...but I ...like you....love to see the whole scene outside.
