My husband brought this sweet pumpkin into the house yesterday. Just looking at it makes me happy knowing that autumn is on the way. Since it was so hot this summer, no one thought to turn the compost heap in the back of the garage. And since we always recycle our pumpkins there every year, that's where a new batch of pumpkins decided to grow.
We'll try to bring more pumpkins indoors as they mature, because if left outside the greedy squirrels will start chomping on them.
Autumn....asks that we prepare for the future-
that we be wise in the ways of garnering and keeping.
But it also asks that we learn to let go - to acknowledge
the beauty of sparseness.

"...to acknowledge the beauty of sparseness." I love that....and your pristine pumpkin as well. I'm relishing the coming of Fall and its intents.
I was going to ask where you got a pumpkin this early. Don't you love it when Mother Nature gives you surprises? I'm soooo ready for Fall. I just hope the hurricane season winds down uneventfully. Blessings!
I love the photos, especially the one on the mantle. I don't know if you meant to have the flash reflect off the plate, but it's quite effective.
Happy little pumpkin!
I can't say I share your looking forward to autumn, sigh...but once it's here, it is beautiful...
Lovely photos and a nice poem too. We didn't have a hot summer here in the highlands so I am not so sure about greeting in the autumn and winter that will come in soon. But it is lovely to see the perfect pumpkin sitting on the mantle taking pride of place, it seems the heat of the summer did him the world of good.
will these work into a painting? The shape and color is wonderful
That's my favorite kind of pumpkin...the small, perfectly shaped ones! And it's the perfect sign of the autumn to come! It looks lovely in it's celebrated spot, too! :)
Hi Willow, The wooly sock weather is upon us. Isn't it wonderful?
Hi Marion, Yes, the surprises of nature are the best. Blessings!
Hi Sam, You're very observant. No, I didn't mean for the flash to go off:) Glad you liked it!
Hi Karen, The beauty of autumn, there's nothing like it! I'm looking forward to reading about how you like T.C.Steele's home and property!
Hi Caroline, I like your expression "taking pride of place". So poetic!
Hi Susan, Good idea, although I haven't done a still life in quite a while:)
Hi Betsy, The small ones are the cutest, I agree!
