Memory of the Day

Memory of the Day
16x20
Oil on Linen

My husband and I have an evening ritual. We sit in our living room facing the western sky with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. Some nights there is brilliance and drama in the sky. Other nights, the sun is obscured by cloud patterns. But no two skies are ever alike.

I incorporated this sky into the composition from a different painting. I just had to try and record what I really saw. Nature is never stingy. She is always a source of inspiration. Anyway, sky watching is always cheap entertainment.

Hi Janelle, your painting is so beautiful and I was wondering what colours you used for your sky and reflection. It was lovely to read about the way you and your hubby end the day together, it is a great way to record the variety of skies you can see at dusk.

Janelle, you consistently produce such awesome work. And you chose the perfect title for this one. I love the title as much as the painting itself...so calming and restful. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent so generously. Blessings!

What a great thing to do in the evening. I agree with you. Nature never lets us down and always provides food for artistic endeavors and for the soul. And speaking of food for the soul, your painting is beautiful. When I enlarged it to have a better look, I actually said "oh wow" out loud. Great atmosphere and light and I love the warm yellow reflection in the stream.

Hi Caroline, Thank you! The colors I used for the sky were indiathrone blue/zinc-titanium white and for the yellow, zinc-titanium white and naples yellow. Also a little bit of cadmium yellow.

Hi Manon, I'm happy my work has a calming effect. That's my goal. Thank you.

Hi Maggie, I love your expression - very civilized! Thanks!

Hi Sam, You're too funny! Thank you!

Hi Diane, I'm trying to get away from using brown pink all the time! Thanks!

I also love the incorporation of the sky from another painting Reminds me that we don't have to paint exactly what we see!

Love that injection of cerulean in the sky Janelle. It just contrasts so beautifully with the warm browns and oranges of the trees and landscape around.

Hi Karen, I find that reality can be really distracting:)
Usually one element is all I can handle in a painting. Thanks for your thoughtful input. You always have something interesting to say!

Hi Sheila, Thanks so much! I'm experimenting with more blues lately!
