Facing West

Facing West
16x20
Oil on Linen

This painting is finally completed after lots of layers of glaze and opaque paint.  It requires many, many sessions of back and forth with the layers, examining the effects between drying times.  This is the painting I did from a photograph taken right outside my front door as the sun was going down.  That is to say - it was inspired by the photograph.  You can check it out here.

I'm gearing up for my solo exhibition at the Glen Ellyn Public Library for the month of September.  I have quite a bit of wall space to fill up and I wish I had more tonalist work done at this point.  But it looks like it's going to be half of my tonalist work and half of my impressionism work.  Hmmm.  I hope it doesn't look too strange!

WOW! This has such strength! I bet it has an amazing glow in person, the kind of glow that only a lot of glazing can produce. Beautiful! I'm sure it will get a lot of attention at the show.

Janelle, WOW! from me too.... this is fabulous! Is it as glowing in real life? Good luck with your show. Getting back to making a mess in oil....I meant my paintings are as much of a mess as making a mess with glazes (lol)....

This is amazing! I can feel the warmth of that sun. I am literally squinting my eyes. Good luck for your show.

I don't see any problem with having some impressionistic and some tonalist type works. I bet they have some commonalities (in mark or subject?)? I think it could make for a really interesting combo!
ANd yes, wow for me to, on the glow. :)

Hi Kim, It should be interesting to see people's reactions to my tonal work because it's never been in public before. Eeeeek!

Hi Maggie, Yes, it glows in real life. Are you taking the Magic Hours class next month? Are you going to be my classmate?

Hi Neetzy, That's too funny!

Hi Karen, Yes, there are similarities, so I guess it will look cohesive enough. Kind of like I'm going through a different period - like Picasso:).
